Boston Arms, 2016

The 2016 Convention was another successful day, with fans from all over the world, and Kast Off Kinks augmented by Jim Rodford, Bob Henrit, Debi & Shirlie with the Cherry Tops from Sweden and a certain Mr Ray Davies with All Day and All of the Night, to close the show.

We are looking at a £4000 collection for charity.

Our thanks to Kast off Kinks, The staff at the Boston Dome, Ray Davies/Management for support.

Next years show will run on November 26th 2017.

Fan Club Meeting, 27 November 2016

For 2015, we moved to the larger room upstairs at The Boston, which for everybody’s benefit has a full concert room stage, a great sound system, but still retains the bar in the room, so  we do not lose that special atmosphere we have experienced downstairs over the last twelve years.

We have to work with and adhere to the licensing laws on the venue, which means age restrictions for under fourteens (no admission), and sixteen or under must be accompanied by an adult. Also we do need to have the necessary staff/security to meet H & S and licence requirements. This all works very well with the Dome staff all helpful and friendly. More seating will be available on request, although we do not want to turn it into a “sit down gig”.

Ray Davies did attend, and was very pleased with the sound and stage setting, Kast off Kinks played three sets with a wide range of material that you will not hear live at their regular gigs, and some songs that are not played live anywhere else. Our thanks to Mark Hayley, Debi & Shilie for support to the Kast off Kinks regular line up, Mick Avory, Ian Gibbons, John Dalton, Dave Clarke. And to Ray for “You Really Got Me”

Fan Club Meeting, 22 November 2015

The 2014 meeting at the Boston Arms Music Room was once again a great success. The stage in the Music Room has now been altered /extended to improve band facility, and as such the room is subject to a lower audience capacity, which will be strictly enforced.

For 2015, we are moving to the larger room upstairs at The Boston, which for everybody’s comfort has a full concert room stage, a new sound system, but still retains the bar in the room, so hopefully we will not lose that special atmosphere we have experienced downstairs over the last twelve years.

We will have to work and adhere to the licensing laws on the venue, which means age restrictions for under fourteens (no admission), and sixteen or under must be accompanied by an adult. Also we do need to have the necessary staff/security to meet H & S and licence requirements. Our audience are not usually any problem, as we pretty well know everyone attending, be even so, we had to have one unreasonable (drunk) fan escorted off the premises last November! More table seating will be available on request, although we do not want to turn it into a “sit down gig”.

Ray Davies did attend again, but on condition that we were able to get him in and out with no hassle, the problem is that Ray is perfectly happy to sign autographs, but some fans can’t leave it at that, and want to be “stuck in his face” exchanging life stories, or book projects! Ray comes along to enjoy the event, talk with the band members and to some extent be a fan of the music, which may seem strange but that’s the way it is.

Having said all that, booking is now open-

Muswell Hillbillies Deluxe Edition

MHB_DeluxeMuswell Hillbillies is now being released as a special 2CD special edition featuring 5 previously unreleased tracks, including ‘Lavender Lane’ and early demo ‘Nobody’s Fool’, as well as alternative song versions and tracks taken from John Peel BBC radio sessions.

Originally released in November 1971, this classic Kinks album was the follow-up to the seminal ‘Lola vs Powerman’ album and the first with their new label RCA. The album was named after the Muswell Hill area of North London, where band leader Ray Davies and guitarist Dave Davies grew up and the band formed in the early 1960s. The album centres around themes of poverty and working-class life,  with a blend of American and British roots music veering effortlessly from rowdy blues and boozy vaudeville to the country sound of its title track and music-hall fuelled ‘Alcohol’.

Muswell Hillbillies is a great album, and ranks up amongst The Kinks’ best.
